Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and practical skills of second-trimester pregnant women regarding perineal massage using olive oil as a preventive strategy against perineal tears. The program was conducted at Sarpi'ina Sinambela Clinic and involved 50 second-trimester pregnant women. Activities included health education, interactive discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, pre-test and post-test evaluations, and skill assessments using observation checklists. The results showed a substantial improvement in participants’ knowledge, with the proportion of women having good knowledge increasing from 16.0% before the intervention to 84.0% after the intervention. Practical skills also improved significantly, with more than 90% of participants demonstrating competence in performing perineal massage procedures correctly. Participant satisfaction reached 100%, and most participants expressed willingness to continue the practice regularly. The program successfully enhanced maternal knowledge, practical skills, and childbirth preparedness, indicating that health education combined with practical training is an effective approach to promoting evidence-based maternal self-care practices.
